After winning their fourth consecutive Stanley Cup Championship Wayne Gretzky walked by the New York Islanders locker room and excepted to see them celebrating. Instead, he saw a team tired, bruised and mental drained from competing on the highest level on the highest stage. It was then that he would later remark that he realized what it took to win. Winning required putting your body on the line, giving hits and willing to pay the price by taking them. The next year Gretzky and his Edmonton Oilers would defeat the same Islanders in a Finals rematch and prevented the Islanders from winning their fifth Stanley Cup in a row.
This year in the Tour De France perhaps the most grueling of all individual sports Lance Armstrong sought to achieve what the Islanders were never able to do, completing the "Drive for Five." Lance Armstrong's story has been well documented. He overcame advanced testicular cancer and a man who had always been an above average cyclist became the best in the world.
But Armstrong's previous four victories were not a factor in his selection. What separated Armstrong from other worthy candidates was how he performed and triumphed. Falling off his bike in the mountains Armstrong's predicated assured victory seemed to vanish. Jan Ulrich, his chief competitor had taken the lead and Armstrong appeared exhausted. Having been the victim of constant harassment by the European media, Armstrong reign appeared to be expiring. It was at that exact moment that it became obvious what a true champion Armstrong was. He got up, jumped back on to his bike and in an almost impossible uphill sprint Armstrong passed his competitors and took a lead that he would hold all the way to the Champs El Lysee. For going deep inside himself to a place that only he knew existed or perhaps he didn't even Lance Armstrong is this year Sportsman of the year.

Thoughts From Malaysia
Dr. Mahathir Mohamad Prime Minister of Malaysia sat down with Chuck Rose to discuss his thoughts on the future, the middle east and other pertinient issues. However, the interview was cut short by Chuck Rose after insenstive answers to senstive questions.
Chuck Rose: Dr. Mahathir Mohamad it is very nice of you to join us today on the eve of the Islamic Summit. 57 Islamic nations are represented today and you are playing as its host. You are at the end of your 22 year reign here in Malasyia and I thank you for joining us here today at this historic moment in the history of mankind.
Dr. Mahathir Mohamad: Thank you
CR: Thank you so so much. My first question is are you a real doctor?
MM: Chuck I am glad you asked. I respond by asking you is that man who is running for president in your country a doctor? That man Howard Dean? We both got our medical degrees but only practiced for a few years. However Dr. Mohamad does have a nice ring to it, kind of like saying Dr. Dean.
CR: Thank you for that answer. The Israel-Palestine issue is once again at the center of these talks. What are your thoughts on the peace process.
MM: The enemy(Israel) allied with most powerful nations. But we are actually very strong, 1.3 billion people cannot be simply wiped out. The Europeans killed 6 million Jews out of 12 million. But today the Jews rule the world by proxy. They get others to fight and die for them.
CR: So you are saying that peace is possible?
MM: Peace is always possible.
CR: Thank you, Doctor.
MM: Thank you, Chuckles.
Coming soon: Me!'s exclusive interview with Hu Jintao President of China

In Search of a Launch Pad and Me!
Gansu, China; The Chinese Space launch will take place not in the province of Gansu, as originally thought but at Dongfeng Space City, in Inner Mongolia. Although the people in Gansu as well as the world are quite shocked by this, it seems more shocking that the world is shocked that the launch will take place at Dongfeng Space City. Any place called Space City appears to be a logical location for a space launch.
Xi Linhagou said today "I have lived in Gansu for many years," it was not in answer to any question I asked but it was the only English he spoke. (Due to a cash flow situation C&M! has been unable to bring a translator along).
Hopefully Inner Mongolia will provide more insight.
-Me!
Calpooch is currently on assignment in Kuala Lumpur preparing for the Asean summit and will be back in China soon.

Destination: A NEW SPACE AGE
Beijing, China: As China prepares to become the third nation in human history to send a man out of earth's atmosphere and into outer-space, Calpooch and Me! will bring you full comprehensive coverage of this historic mission. Calpooch, Me and Chuck Rose will cover the story from all its angles--from Beijing to Washington DC. Is this the dawn of a new space race between the world's sole superpower and world's next superpower or is the American public after the tragedy of the Columbia uninterested in manned space flight? With interviews with Sean O'Keefe, Hu Jintao and many others C&M! is the place to be for the Launch of the Shenzhou 5, if you can't be in China of course or don't have a giant telescope in your backyard.

Dear cp&m:
you are fast becoming one of the nations top political pundits and your analysis of the possible quick fixes for 43 were right on target.
The problem additionally is what has become of our leaders.
I think that the well described intoxication of power overwhelms most leaders.
It would be nice to see leaders focus on their visions, short and long term planning and communication of ideas to their constituents. Let them rise or fall based on their ideas- not on their political skills.
It is the sign of a true leader who sets up goals and when accomplished marches on.
Career politicians seem to be awaiting events so as to define themselves and hold onto power as if it were a life raft.
43 has some soul searching and work to do.
keep up the good work.
